FLOOD IN INDIA KILLS 8 ASIATIC LIONS, 35 STILL MISSING 

 

Disappointing news for the Asiatic lion population in Gujarat, India as 8 lions are killed due to flash floods in the Amreli district within the past 2-3 days

 

A major setback for widllife conservation efforts in Gujarat, it is believed that as many as 35 lions are missing, with forest troops doing their utmost to search for carcases with hopes of finding lions which may have survived the floods. 

 

Oddly enough, the Amreli district had seen an increase in the number of lions (174) with other distrcits holding steady levels for lion populations. The massive amount of rainfall which caused the flooding has also killed several people and destroyed numerous villages.
